The Shadow Dexterous Hand Extra Super Lite (DHSL) is a minimal-digit, highly weight-optimized member of Shadow Robot Company's Dexterous Hand Lite series, positioned beyond the Extra Lite variant in terms of mass reduction and mechanical simplicity. The Lite series progressively removes fingers across successive configurations to deliver dexterous end-effectors better suited to mobile manipulation, payload-limited robot arms, and labs that need a compact platform without committing to the full complexity of a five-finger anthropomorphic hand. The DHSL retains the bio-inspired kinematics and opposition-capable thumb design of the broader Shadow family, enabling pinch grasps, supported holds, and tool-oriented manipulation within its reduced-finger architecture.

Like other Shadow Dexterous Hand systems, the DHSL is built around an electrically actuated, self-contained architecture where key actuation, control electronics, and sensing are integrated into the hand-and-forearm assembly. EtherCAT fieldbus communications support deterministic control loops suited to dexterous manipulation experiments, and ROS integration pathways enable connection to planning, perception, and simulation stacks widely used in academic and industrial R&D. The platform is commonly deployed as an end-effector on research robot arms or used as a standalone manipulation testbed.
